Burn, blast, and electrify enemies with the environment in Divinity: Original Sin

If I’ve learned anything from Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition‘s trailers, it’s that the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. I can appreciate that. There are enough deadly serious role-playing games out there that somehow end up sacrificing all their character. I mean, at its heart, Original Sin is a meat-and-potatoes RPG that takes its design mechanics seriously, sure, but the developers don’t mind a little wisecracking.

This video talks about Original Sin‘s leap to consoles, specifically addressing combat and how it’ll all go down on a gamepad (versus the PC’s keyboard-and-mouse configuration). The narrator conveys a lot of info in 2.5 minutes, stating that navigating menus, etc., with the gamepad is a breeze. But the video doesn’t go into too many specifics about which button does what, so we’ll just have to take their word for it at the moment. It appears that there’s an approximation of BioWare’s excellent radial dials at work here. But they’re really selling the environmental combat effects: lighting pools of fuel on fire, shocking enemies standing in rain puddles with electricity. All good stuff.

Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in less than two weeks, on October 27. We’re seeing what we can do to shake loose a review copy from the developers. Stay tuned.
