By this time it’s no secret that Nintendo will be bringing back the Nintendo World Championships, a competition first held back in 1990 where players had six minutes and twenty-one seconds to collect fifty coins in Super Mario Bros., finish a track in Rad Racer, then score as much as they could in Tetris with the remaining time.  The game that will be used for the qualifying competition will be Ultimate NES Remix for the Nintendo 3DS, specifically a mode that somewhat recreates the 1990 NWC.  The three games in the mode are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Dr. Mario.

Nintendo has chosen eight Best Buy locations across the country to hold qualifying events with the top scorer in each region moving on to the final event in Los Angeles which will be a multi-round competition with a variety of Nintendo games.  There will also be eight other competitors selected by Nintendo to compete which will be revealed in the near future.

As for the eight Best Buy locations, they are:

  • 1717 Harrison St.  San Francisco, CA
  • 3675 Pacific Coast Highway  Torrance, CA
  • 10760 NW 17th St.  Miami, FL
  • 900 E. Golf Road  Schaumburg, IL
  • 12905 Elm Creek Blvd. N  Maple Grove, MN
  • 5001 Northern Blvd.  Long Island City, NY
  • 9378 N. Central Expressway  Dallas, TX
