This November Mario and the gang head back to the tennis courts in Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, and Nintendo has recently released some new details about the latest outing to the courts.  For starters, and probably to no one’s surprise, the game will have Amiibo compatibility.  Supported amiibo figures can be used as partners in online doubles matches, or you can use them to battle strong CPU-controlled opponents in the offline Knockout Challenge mode.  Similar to Super Smash Bros. the more matches the amiibo plays, the more skill and experience it will gain.  The amiibo currently compatible are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Yarn Yoshis, Rosalina, Wario, Toad, and Donkey Kong.  Basically, the normal Mario Tennis gang that currently have amiibos.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will also include new moves such as the Ultra Smash where characters will leap high into the air before smashing the ball down to the other side.  I’m guessing it’s this game’s version of the Final Smashes in the Smash Bros. games.  New game modes will include the aforementioned Knockout Challenge as well as Mega Battle (grab a Mega Mushroom to dominate the court with your new size, power, and range), Classic Tennis (with Standard and Simple modes), and Online Multiplayer which can be played using both Mega Battle and Classic Tennis modes.  Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will also have compatibility with the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, and Classic Controller Pro.
