New Mad Max dev diary explores the extensive wasteland

Mad Max Fury Road is almost upon us, but the semi-unrelated game Mad Max still has a couple months left to cook in the hellish forge before it’s ready. While the new movie looks like one giant extended car chase sequence (at least going by the trailers), the new game looks to have a lot of grit and nuance, no pun intended. The focus is on customization; Max must scour the wasteland for scrap so he can build new weapons and even a new interceptor, the Magnum Opus.

While other games like Rage have come close to emulating the harsh style of Mad Max, the seminal post-apocalyptic film series has never gotten a truly worthy game adaptation, with only an old NES game from 1990. It’s hard to believe a series so influential to video games has never been properly translated into a game itself, but it looks like that’s going to change on September 1st.
