New Ryan Hemsworth music video is all VR everything

Here’s some okay electronic dance music that is remarkable mostly because virtual reality plays a heavy role in the video. In “Surrounded,” Canadian EDM producer Ryan Hemsworth steps into a gymnasium-sized mocap session, but is then fitted with what sort of looks like a Morpheus PlayStation VR headset. From there, he climbs prop ladders and goes down prop steps with the VR headset on, which is totally unsafe! But I’m still watching.

Then it moves onto a more Ready Player One situation with people living in virtual reality at all times. Petting the dog, standing out in a field, or, strangely, dancing at a club in virtual reality when that person is already in a dance club in real reality. Ryan Hemsworth even has a show going in VR when he’s already performing at a show IRL. Virtual inception!

Also, if the YouTube credits are to be believed, then Ubisoft played a role in the virtual world’s game graphics.

2016 will be the Year of VR, folks. You ready, player one?
