Sid Meier’s Starships announced, coming early 2015

Living legend Sid Meier is at it again. His team just announced Sid Meier’s Starships, coming to PC, Mac, and iPad early this year. It’s a turn-based adventure-driven interstellar strategy game.

Last year’s Civilization: Beyond Earth wasn’t a sequel to 1999’s Alpha Centauri, and Sid Meier’s Starships won’t be Alpha Centauri 2 either. But Beyond Earth and Starships will tie-in together, if you own both games.

“My goal,” said Sid Meier in a press statement, “was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”

The “adventure-driven” portion of the game has to do with a “lost tribe” from Earth that’s now sent a distress signal from outer space back to Earth. Old Earth is now gearing up and taking to the stars in order to save their long-lost brethren. The video is terribly generic, but that’s typical of Sid Meier’s games. He’s known more for crafting award-winning games, not Oscar-worthy cinematics — so who cares?

Sid Meier will spill more details during PAX South (Jan 23 – 25) in San Antonio, TX.
