Soar with eagles, slide down pyramids in Assassin’s Creed Origins launch trailer

Assassin’s Creed Origins launches this week. Ubisoft made good on its promise to skip a year. The last major Assassin’s Creed was Assassin’s Creed Syndicate in 2015. We don’t count the 2.5D Assassin’s Creed Chronicles that Climax Studios developed. Low scores on those games anyway. So, Origins is Ubisoft making good on its promise to skip a year and rethink a little bit of the core series.

This launch video details the “Legend of the Assassin.” As it was written, our hero stands alone on a wall crammed with hieroglyphics. Well, alone, but with Senu, his eagle that actually justifies an Assassin’s eagle vision.

Catching a thermal over the city of Alexandria, the eagle sees everything from the Nile’s riverbanks to the Pyramids at Giza. You can fly the eagle around. My seven-year-old loves doing that part.

Then we dive into another tomb, where hieroglyphic Assassins and Roman soldiers do battle. The hieroglyphs turn into a live action stabby session. The armor on both guys is amazing. Next comes the requisite Pyramid Slide (TM) with a tilted camera angle so it looks even steeper than it is. Then Bayek—that’s you—runs from an armored elephant. Elephants can be so mean! You catch a hint of the Brotherhood’s signature eagle-beaked hood in Bayek’s keffiyeh throughout.

You are a man that fights unseen. Who goes where the gods forbid. Killing the wicked and the corrupt. The video heads to the bloody sands of a Roman arena. Where gladiators wear their kills (rather than their hearts) on their sleeves. You talk to your fellow citizen-warriors in Egypt. You form the Brotherhood. You beat back the tide of Roman oppression. Clashing under the desert sun, or swimming from crocodiles, or taking aim at the gods, or getting your Ben-Hur on. There’s a lot to see and do in Origins.

Assassin’s Creed Origins launches this Friday, October 27 on PC, PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X.
