Ubisoft goes stone age with Far Cry Primal

Apparently those rumors of an arctic Far Cry were premature, as Ubisoft’s next big entry in the series is Far Cry Primal. According to this launch trailer the game will take place in early modern human history during the last ice age. As you can imagine that involves a lot of woolly mammoth hunting and surprise saber tooth tiger attacks. The stinger at the end also implies skirmishes with rival human communities, which makes sense as humans have been killing each other since before…well, we were technically humans. Remember that scene at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey with the australopiths?

Aside from how Ubisoft will implement the climb-a-tower-to-reveal-the-map mechanic they put in all of their games, Far Cry Primal raises some other questions. I have to wonder, does Patrice Desilets’ game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey have anything to do with Far Cry going all Flintstones on us? I guess after unceremoniously firing the Assassin’s Creed creator, twice, Ubisoft won’t let him have his caveman game without a flint-knapped handaxe fight.

Far Cry Primal arrives February 23rd, 2016.
