You can be a man or a woman, with various skin tones, in Minecraft: Story Mode

You can be a man or a woman in Minecraft: Story Mode. Not only that, you can be light or dark skinned, and have a customizable outfit. As long as you’re wearing suspenders for boys and coveralls for girls. Minecraft: Story Mode is developer Telltale’s first game with a selectable main character. Your name, though—Jesse—is sufficiently gender neutral, applying neatly to both male and female protagonists.

Patton Oswalt (perennial geek culture spokesman) voices male Jesse. Catherine Taber (Padme Amidala from Star Wars: The Clone Wars) voices female Jesse.

Folks at PAX 2015 (Aug. 28–31) are playing the game’s first public beta right now. Here’s a look at the trailer from Minecon back in July.

Minecraft: Story Mode is coming to every platform under the sun: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC/Mac, iOS, and Android devices. It’s due sometime Fall 2015, but if Telltale’s previous series are any indication, release dates for each episode will be announced at the last minute, and have scattered dates between each gaming platform. (It was cute the first couple times, but now it’s mostly tedious to follow the bouncing ball.)
